Stuck in the middle (random thought)

Kind of a random thought... I just realized how comfortable it is being in the middle of a time zone, and how annoying it must be to live near the edge of one. It's 650 miles to the Mountain Time Zone in West Texas and 665 miles to the Eastern Time Zone in Florida (I had always thought I was closer to Eastern until I looked it up!). It's nice to know that any casual day trip I take, I will never have to change my clock. In fact, I would really have to be gunning it to leave my time zone in a single day. It's something that I guess I take for granted.
Same thing with state boundaries. I couldn't imagine living right on the edge of a state. Granted, I'm only about 110 miles from Louisiana, but that's still far enough away that it doesn't affect my every day life. If you lived in the middle of Massachusetts, you'd have 6 states within 110 mile radius! Each state has their own laws and culture. It's just nice that I don't have to deal with that. I couldn't imagine living on major "three-way" border towns like Cincinnati, Chicago, NYC, or Mobile, where it's a short drive to two different states.
Just a random thought...

And states aren't that bad either; it gives you someone to make fun of. "Ohhh you're from *Kentucky*..."
