So Much for Passing Dan

I was hoping to pass Dan from EveryWhatever.com on life counties on my trip this weekend.  I was hoping to get one on the way to Austin (Burlington) off US-290, then take US-183 down south of I-10 to pick up 4 more counties (Wilson, Karnes, Dewitt and Lavaca).  I had figured worst case, I could at least get Lavaca, which is just a few miles off I-10 from Schulenburg.

This would of put me at 728 and Dan at 726.  This probably would of been my last chance, since he's already plotting a 43-county day trip through West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky.

Well, it turns out that MAJOR construction is going on at I-10 and Beltway 8 this weekend in which the entire road will be shut down in both directions.  This makes my 4 county detour change from a 2 hour detour to a 3 hour detour (it's usually only 3 hours total to drive between Houston and Austin).  So I think I'll just have to take US-290 back and live with a modest 1 new county :(
