Oregon Trip: Day 3

June 13, 2007:
Yesterday we took it easy. I got up and watched Mr. Bean: The Movie. Then Pam got up and we both watched Miss Congeniality. Then we decided to head to downtown Portland, since I wanted to check out the go club that night.
First we spent a while looking for a place to park. It was pretty much a nightmare because it seemed half the roads were closed due to construction. After zigzagging and backtracking, we finally just decided to shell out the $15 to park in an underground garage where the Portland Grill was. We walked down Broadway and checked out the Oregon Heritige Museum gift shop, then walked over to Park Ave and sat and enjoyed The Parks in the beautiful weather we were having. We were really tempted to go to the Rembrant exhibit at the Portland Art Museum, but they were charching $15 a person. So instead we just went to the gift shop for a while and checked out the free scupltures outside.
After that I was getting hungry, so we walked back to the Portland Grill, which is on the 30th floor of the building we parked underneath. We got there earlier than Happy Hour, so we were able to get the couch seating overlooking the city. Since their happy hour was deals on food, we ordered drinks and waited for 4:30 to hit. After 4:30, we ordered food. With drinks and food it was about $30, so it wasn't bad at all.
Next we went to Powell's Book Store for the Portland Go Club. Pam actually played Go! I played a guy, Merlin, close to my rank and lost by about 4 points. After our game, Pam, me, Merlin, and his girlfriend all played a game of Rengo (pair go), which we also lost :) After that we went to a basement bar a couple blocks down and chatted with Bill Shubert, the creator of KGS, the Go server I play on. 'Sweety', an admin I've also talked to was there as well. I heard her real name a couple of times, but I can't remember it... it was japanese, I think.
After that we went straight home and chatted a little with my cousin Seth who had just flown in from Glasgow, Scotland, where he was visiting from Benin, Africa before coming to Portland.
Today I think we're going to check out Washington Park, provided it doesn't rain too much.
