New Camcorder

<<< Oregon Trip: Day 1 Computer Programs and the (now) 63-Bus Ride >>>

June 7, 2007:

Pam and I finally upgraded our camcorder.  We both wanted something light and not too expensive (comparatively).  I wanted something with a long record time and battery life so I could take it on my bus trip.  I decided on getting an HDD (Hard Drive) for the long record time and ease of web publishing.  It came down between three models:  The Panasonic SDR-H18, the Sony DCR-SR42 and the JVC Everio GZMG155.

I ended up choosing the Panasonic SDR-H18.  First off, it's the same brand as my high-end digital camera, which I love.  It also have optical image stabalization as opposed to digital, which is better.  Not to mention, it was about $100-200 cheaper!  We have a winner :)

Here's a stock photo of it:

I bought two large batteries to go with, since the battery that came with it lasts 1 to 1 3/4 hours (depending on what you do with it).  The large batteries I got with it last 2 1/2 to 5 1/2 hours.  Unfortunately, the large batteries weigh as much as the camera does!  But fortunately, that still isn't very much!  It records in widescreen as well as TV size.  It also takes 640x480 digital photographs (I would of had to pay a lot more for the next model up to increase this).

So there it is.  Hopefully I can embed some video with my blog posts now by transferring some videos to YouTube.  We'll see :)
