Any ol' Monday in the Armpit of the Universe

August 28, 2006:

Tonight I went to my first Geocaching Event! It was on the southwest side of town, just outside the loop. I really didn't quite know what to expect. I showed up at the restaurant and there was already a large group of people there. I was introduced to a few people until one name stood out: HoustonControl. This man is responsible for 60-70% of the caches in Baytown, most of which I've found. I spend most of the evening chatting it up with him.

This meeting confirmed my friend's comment that I have "old man" hobbies. I was easily the youngest person there. I would even venture to say that my friends Conan and Jennifer, who showed up, were the 2nd and 3rd youngest there. But, it doesn't make a difference to me. All I care is that I enjoy myself :)

And to clarify, the title of this blog entry is the title of the event. Houston is known as the "armpit" of America because of the way it looks on a map of the Gulf coast. If Florida was the hand, we\'d be the armpit. Also it smells funny and it\'s really hot.
